The cottage is situated on a tight site bounded by a road and the railway in West Ferry, and has wonderful views south-west over the river Tay. The cottage was completely refurbished internally, allowing the plan to be rationalised, with a new stair and attic rooms creating a two-bedroom property. An extension to the gable enabled an open plan kitchen dining and living area to be formed to the south end of the cottage, centred around a wood-burning stove. A corner window gives views out south and west, whilst a clerestory window to the east enables morning sun to filter through to the new space. The addition of two solar thermal panels provides all of the hot water requirements of the cottage.
